The 2014 season is officially underway for the South Carolina Gamecocks! Classes and practice are in full swing in Columbia. The Gamecocks are excited to kick-off the 2014 season after a long Fall Ball season and the team feels like they have something to prove after falling short of the SELC Playoffs last season.
The weather in Columbia has been like a roller coaster during the first few weeks of practice. The first practice of the year was played out during a beautiful evening with the temperature around 60 degrees. The comfortable weather was short lived as practice was in the 20’s and 30’s for the rest of the week.
The Gamecocks practice four days a week at three different on campus field locations and practice time slots vary depending on the night of the week. With the team trying to adjust to the new practice schedule, Mother Nature gave no favors to the ‘Cocks when snow hit Columbia for the first time in a long while. Despite the fact that the majority of players on the team have practiced in snow at some point during their youth or high school careers, having closed fields eliminated the team from conducting practice through the untimely weather.
Fortunately, Carolina feels they still have plenty of time to prepare before their mid-week season opener against The Citadel on February 12th. USC will look to take advantage of the next few weekends in Columbia before heading on the road to Tallahassee, Virginia, New Orleans, and Atlanta.
Here is a small sample of some of the new gear the ‘Cocks will be wearing this spring.
